For 25 years, Karen Gregg led the award-winning band program at Lyons Middle Senior High School as Director of Bands. During her tenure, the program grew by more than 400% and came to include nearly 40% of the school’s student body.
Under her direction, the bands at Lyons Middle Senior High School were recognized as some of the best in the State. Three of those groups were chosen to perform at the prestigious Colorado Music Educators Association Convention in recent years.
In addition to her teaching responsibilities in Lyons, Karen has served on the All-State Band Steering Committee, the CHSAA Music Advisory Board, and is currently the President of the Colorado Bandmasters Association. She also coordinates the Middle and High School Honor Bands for St. Vrain Valley Schools.
Karen has earned all three of her degrees in Bassoon Performance and spent many years performing professionally while teaching. Between degrees, she served as the Principal Bassoonist and Woodwind Director of the Orquesta Sinfonica de Barranquilla in Barranquilla, Colombia.
In her free time, she loves to travel the world and spend time enjoying the outdoors here in Colorado with her husband Shawn, their two kids, and their two adventure-loving poodles.
